Iftar to empower the future generations

Ramadan is a time to give to the less privileged and the marginalised.

Lara Ariss (chef and author of Levantine Harvest), Dina Maktabi (founder and editor of Mums in Beirut) and Nadine Sinno (cofounder of Lakay Creation) gathered around one simple idea: Let’s work hand in hand on a project aiming at giving back to the Lebanese community.

“What better time than during Ramadan to unite energies and help others? Regardless of the religion you practice, fasting is a spiritual discipline that enables you to feel with those in need. The idea came naturally on a sunny afternoon at our showroom when the enthusiasm of Dina met the generosity of Lara”, says Nadine Sinno.

The trio will host an Iftar on June 15th at Lakay Creation showroom in Downtown Beirut. All proceeds will go to Nawaya, an NGO helping young talents with low income achieve their dreams, irrespective of their religion, social background or geographical origin.

Nawaya has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognition, including the “Most Resourceful Award” from Johnny Walker as well as the King Abdallah Award for Youth Innovation and Achievement.

Zeina Saab, Founder & Director of The Nawaya Network says “I am thankful to this initiative for the incredible generosity and support for our youth.  It is so heartwarming to see the community come together to support the vulnerable.  The impact made on their lives is truly transformational for them.  The funds raised will be directed to our talent program, to support underprivileged youth to further develop their talents and passions. Through this program, our youth become driven and motivated by the opportunity to invest in something they are passionate about.  As a result, everything changes.  They become more confident, their sense of self-worth increases, they become career-oriented, learn to express themselves in non-violent ways, among a number of other positive outcomes”.

Lara Ariss adds “Welcoming people and cooking for them from the heart is the first and most basic act of generosity; it’s a universal common ground and my favorite way to share and give back”.

“Mums in Beirut is all about community and support, so when brainstorming ideas with Lara and Nadine the idea came to mind to empower and inspire the new generation in our community”, says Dina Maktabi. She adds, “I am very honored to be supporting such a great cause that teaches young talent in the new generation to help them to succeed in life”.

The iftar Ramadan menu will be selected and cooked by Lara Ariss using organic products. Zeina Saab will also be present giving a short presentation on her NGO and how the money raised will help young talent develop further in Lebanon.

“At Lakay Creation, we take pride in our designs that are exclusively made in Lebanon with the most environmentally conscious items. Helping Nawaya in their support of young talents is another step in our efforts to improve our society and focus on a healthier and more productive world”, explains Nadine Sinno.
